Somnium Domus
Seattle Residence
This three-story plus garage residence Is just one block from Jefferson Park & Golf Course in South Seattle. This new home occupies the underutilized backyard of an early 20th century home. The existing pathway from 15th Ave S. to Hinds Pl. S. remains on the South side and influences the curved backside of the structure. Behind this solid wall is the light flooded stairwell that connects the garage, living area and private zones of the home.

Artist's House in Hawaii
Located just a few miles from the Kilauea volcano, this artist's studio and residence was over ten years in the making. Taking cues from the traditional Polynesian Long House (hālau) the structure is sheltered under a wide vented hip roof with a wide surrounding lanai that allows the interior spaces to flow outdoors. Several iterations were explored, finally one concept prevailed and is under construction today.

DADU in Renton, Wa
Washington State laws allow for the densification of private properties by adding either Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) or by developing 4 to 6 units per lot, depending on a number of factors. This detached ADU (DADU) is proposed for family members of the property owner. Though small in size, it is big on space and how it is utilized. Its private driveway leads to a 2-car garage. On the entry level from the street is the living space. One flight down is the kitchen and dining area, one flight up is the bedroom.

Son Riera, Mallorca
A Mallorquin family estate outside of Campos, Mallorca is nestled among almond trees and expansive low rolling hills. The main historic house is rustic and unplanned, yet beautiful and awe inspiring. The neglected yet solid barn to the East of the house is to be transformed into the living quarters/guest house for the sons. Natural light fills the spaces with roof skylights, avoiding as many facade interventions as possible. Anchoring the East end is a new 2-story addition that is the private nucleus of the structure. Between the kitchen and this addition can be found the central fireplace and chimney, so central to the Mallorquin family spaces.
Buck Knife, Fall City
Designed for my family and me in the somewhat sleepy town of Fall City, approximately 25 miles from Seattle on the way to the Snoqualmie Pass. The site is a shallow but long plot with a curved road on the front. The design captures the maximum footprint of the site and exhibits playful uses of natural light, screening and vegetation to create fluid boundaries between IN and OUT. Deciduous trees (Oak) line the street for seasonal shade and shadows. Green roofs cover the structure which aide in the water runoff management and improve the overall energy efficiency of the house. All glazing is highly efficient, with walls, subfloors and roofs having high R-values.

A House for Jake...and his new family.
In Burien, Wa the former ranch style home of 1,300 sf was transformed into a modern day two level home for a young musician, his wife and toddler. The house boasts a double-deep garage that houses the owner's classic of cars & motorcycles and his in-home recording studio. Entertaining is what Jake does best, so all the public facing spaces are designed for receiving friends and spending time with loved ones. A double-height space links the main level's core area and the upper suite, creating a constant opportunity for communication.

Sheshan Villas
Believe it or not, what you are seeing in the images are villas in the Sheshan luxury villa quartier, near Shanghai, China. A powerful investment group created this luxury zone that boasts a PGA-standards golf course, three phases of villa developments in differing architypes and a world class infrastructure system, all within a car's drive from one of China's busiest metropoles. This particular section is styled after the Tuscany region of Italy. Each mansion sits on its own acre of land with extensive gardens and amenities. Great strides were made to design luxury structures that incorporated both authentic Italian architecture and specific Chinese values and needs.
