KONKA is a leading manufacturer of televisions, mobile phones and appliances. Based In Shemzhen, China the company has grown just as the city has - substantially and rapidly. This year KONKA is making a bold move by entering into the busy international market. The new headquarters signals the company's confidence and strength. Towering over Shenzhen's busiest boulevard and peering out Over The sprawling golf course the building will become an instant urban icon. KONKA has specified a number of design requirements such as an in-house bank, restaurants for public and employees, entertainment venues and luxurious gardens throughout. Phase I of the design process captured KONKA's interest and affection, with Phase II underway.

Horticultural Center in Kent

This sprawling agricultural center is a destination in itself with some of the planet's most cherished and rare species on display. Education is the main theme, exposing visitors to not only the science and craft of horticulture, but the diverse benefits, ease of implementation and of course the need for more involvement on every level of humanity to create a better future for all of us. Rotating displays exhibiting world sub-climates inform visitors how specific plants react and thrive in every possible climate zone. A garden center teaches visitors -young and old - how to begin and manage a private garden. Participants are encouraged to return to reap the harvest of their labor, when the time comes. The architecture creates a sun-filled main atrium that is reached by a covered walkway suspended over a marine habitat. Exhibition halls are on the main floor to take advantage of natural sunlight. Rainwater is harvested and reused extensively throughout the building. Greywater is recycled as well and sewage is retained onsite for fertilization processing. The basement level is set aside for classrooms, an auditorium and seed & produce storage. Most classrooms have a commercial grade kitchen for experiencing the freshest produce right on the spot.

Maggie's Centre, Cambridge, UK

With Daniel Libeskind

This challenging site would be the home of one of the first Maggie's Center facilities in the UK. Maggie Jencks was a Scottish writer, artist and garden designer who co-founded Maggie's Centres with her husband Charles Jencks. Maggie was diagnosed with and beat cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer returned, prompting the Jencks's to establish cancer care centers to empower cancer patients with knowledge, support and to live with their condition and fight it, where possible. To spawn public interest Architects of high standing were chosen to design the facilities, including Libeskind, Steven Holl, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and others. There are currently 32 Maggie's Centres in Europe and Japan. Libesknd's solution juxtaposes two geometric trapezoids around a central spine. This vertical Zen garden is open to the elements above and serves as a meditative feature, bringing nature and natural light into the interior.

S'Aigua Blava, Mallorca

Studio Vidal Contesti was tasked with the full renovation of a major public swimming pool and sports center near Palma de Mallorca. This already well-established sports centrum needed a dire facelift to remain relevant and to curb declining public interest. The solutions were both impactful and economically feasible. The newly revealed S'Aigua Blava was received magnanimously by the Mallorquin public.

Roadshow Motel, Nayarit, Mexico

Along a busy highway near Tepic, Mexico is the tranquil oasis of refuge and rest. The circular courtyard buildings provide privacy, shade and tranquility for travelers making long journeys along the scenic highway 150. The precast concrete facades mimic the tires that carry the travelers. Spacious courtyards with swimming pools and palm trees create a relaxing environment for weary guests.

Roca Flor, Palma de Mallorca

A conversion of the current hostel into residential, commercial and office spaces. The existing building is to be re-designed to accommodate office space, a restaurant and 4 apartments. A new construction in the back will contain the main office and a luxury apartment overlooking the King`s palace in Mallorca.

Baakenhafen Development Study

The Baakenhafen, an historic port of Hamburg, Germany has been under speculative consideration for decades. This particular study creates a new urban zone, one full of activity, work, living space and leisure. At the base of the peninsula and near the major lines of infrastructure are located a new stadium and a conference center. Westward and on the northern sections a vibrant mix of living spaces, work-live spaces, hotels, shops, offices and cultural venues (aquarium and art & history museum) make the Baakenhafen a destination of its own.

Commercial Daycare in Snohomish

This daycare has operated as a family home daycare serving the surrounding community for several years. Having established themselves as a trustworthy, affordable and much needed provider, the daycare is now expanding and upgrading to a fully commercial venue.

Sunset 701

This 18-unit townhome complex overlooks the Renton Landing and the Renton Boeing Plant. Conveniently located on Sunset Ave. the freeway entrance is a block away. SeaTac airport is less than 20 minutes away and several bus stops in the immediate vicinity make this an ideal location for communing young families. An underground parking facility provides 35 parking stalls.

DiJing Commercial Street

.This high-end commercial street is the final phase of 500,000m2 + residential area. The brief called for an internal shopping street which reacted to the already built-up area and neighbors. In order to heighten the experience of shopping and to decrease the amount of signage, the street is arranged in a series of oblique angles, punctured by wide open public spaces and bisected by paths and bridges.

Foshan Cultural Center and Resort

Hangzhou Mixed Use Complex

Nanjing Office Tower

Nanjing's business district is the new home of one of China's premier stock exchange centers. The three towers represent the three pillars of China's strength - Economic growth, technological advancement and cultural heritage. Intricate patterns create the facade and plaza below. State functions, including a conference center, bank, stock exchange floor and an economic research institute, are housed in the building along with offices, restaurants, exercise facilities and classrooms.  

XiChong Regional Observatory

The XiChong region is located nearly two hours from Shenzhen, a remote and unspoiled coastal area with rugged terrain and spectacular beaches. Atop the highest peak the Shenzhen Meteorological Institute wishes to construct a lunar and solar observatory, as well as meteorological measurement facilities and public amenities. Five buildings are to be constructed with a limited budget and very demanding technological requirements. The main building houses guest rooms, support facilities, a restaurant, personnel quarters and meteorological measuring equipment. The main observatory building will be home to two 8m telescopes, an observation deck and technical support spaces. The remaining three buildings are sprawled over the hilltop and house various technical equipment for measuring atmospheric phenomena and create diverse spaces for public education and nature observation.   

Sanya Beauty Pageant Venue

Hainan Is China`s equivalent of the Riviera, located at the southern tip of the country, an island paradise for tourists of all walks. A Beijing developer envisions a hotel and attraction paradise in scale of Las Vegas to be located on the current site of the Sanya Beauty Pagaent. The new complex will provide a new house for the pagaent and other entertainment events, a 5-star hotel with well Over 1,700 rooms, several villas and commercial venues.  

Suzhou Sports Village

Suzhou is one of China's 'Heaven on Earth' cities (along with neighboring Hangzhou). In the heart of the industrial zone East of the famous garden city this sports complex offers multiple sports venues (soccer, tennis, swimming and a driving range). Athletes are housed in the sports village apartments, while guests enjoy luxurious hotel suites adjacent to the commercial shopping area. A ceremonial and cultural theater mark the center of the village which houses the main banquet hall, VIP rooms and office staff.
